This monthly publication from National Geographic is, of course, chock-full of nature pictures and lots of advertisements from computer software and upcoming movies such as Kung Fu Panda. So, it is a meld of commercialism and conservationism, games and tear-out collector’s cards, and funny animal pictures and at least one meaty feature about endangered animals. What really keeps this magazine in my 10-year-old’s hands is the photography contest for kids. She has actually entered the contest, and looks to see the winning images in each issue. Still, my hunch is that this magazine will not appeal to more mature tastes.
